The Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York would like to inform the public that the 2010 Greek Independence Day Parade will take place on Sunday April 18, 2010.The parade date was approved by the Board and wholeheartedly endorsed by Archbishop Demetrios following a meeting with Federation President Mr. Demetrius Kalamaras.
The Federation will engage all interested groups and individuals well before the end of the year so as to make the 2010 Parade an even greater success than 2009’s Parade. All interested in participating in the 2010 Parade committee can email hellenicfedny@yahoo.com to pledge their assistance and to nominate grand marshals.
The Baltimore Federation has announced that the local Greek community has pledged to send 3 buses to the New York Parade, and are accordingly preparing for the Baltimore Parade for April 11, 2010.
Furthermore, following consultations with Mr. Taso Christoforou, President of the South African Hellenic Federation together with Metropolitan Efstathios of Monemvassia and Sparti where they jointly toured and were fully impressed with the operation of the Incurable Illness Asylum, President Christoforou pledges to make every effort to attend the 2010 Parade. Moreover, both Presidents pledged to work jointly to make Olympic Airlines reconsider its plans to cut service to and from Athens , NY , Canada and South Africa .
