New York: Jaharis Family Foundation Challenge Gift Doctors of the World USA announced a portion of a $2 million dollar Challenge Gift from the Jaharis Family Foundation will directly impact their efforts to provide essential medical care to the people of Greece.
–Doctors of the World USA (MdM USA) announced a major donation from the Jaharis Family Foundation will provide a significant boost to the global healthcare organization’s initiative of providing access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations in Greece, specifically those affected by the economic crisis.
Through an already established collaboration with Doctors of the World in Greece, the Jaharis Family Foundation Gift will assist in expanding vaccination programs for children and the elderly as well as establish more polyclinics to provide primary and urgent care to children, expectant mothers (pre/post-natal care) and the elderly, among others.
“Doctors of World USA is grateful to continue our partnership with the Jaharis Family Foundation as we work together to expand access to vaccination programs for vulnerable populations in Greece,” said Doctors of the World USA Board President, Dr. Ron Waldman. “We are grateful for the Foundation’s generosity and hope that together we can work to ensure that there is equal access to medical care for all in Greece.”
Doctors of the World has been active in Greece since 1997, providing free medical services through “Open Polyclinics” across Greece, including in Athens, Thessaloniki, Chania and Perama. Since 2011, MdM has expanded their free medical services to a meet the growing need as a result of the economic crisis.
Michael Jaharis stated, “We hope that this gift will others to collectively respond by donating funds that will match this gift and therefore further positively impact children as well as other vulnerable populations such as the elderly in Greece.”
The Jaharis Family Foundation made this generous donation in honor of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymous of Athens and His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America. The gift will aid MdM’s efforts to expand vaccination programs and establish additional health clinics to provide primary and urgent care to vulnerable populations.
The gift to MdM USA is a portion of a larger $2 million Challenge Gift from the Jaharis Family Foundation, which will benefit two other international non-governmental organizations, International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and SOS Children’s Villages and their respective efforts to bring humanitarian aid to the people of Greece.
