United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara will be our speaker at the PAL Luncheon Series June 25, 2012 at Mutual of America on Park Ave.
Mr. Bharara became U.S. Attorney in 2009. As U.S. Attorney, Mr. Bharara oversees the investigation and litigation of all criminal and civil cases brought on behalf of the United States in the Southern District of New York.
The office handles cases that include domestic and international terrorism, narcotics and arms trafficking, white collar crime, public corruption, gang violence, organized crime, and civil rights violations.
Since Mr. Bharara’s appointment as U.S. Attorney, his office has successfully prosecuted a number of high profile cases such as the notorious arms trafficker, Viktor Bout of Russia; Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad and Al Qaeda plotters of the American Embassy bombings in East Africa.
Last week, June 3rd, 2012, Mr. Bharara published an OP-ED piece in the New York Times entitled, “Asleep at the Laptop..’
The alarm bells sound regularly: cybergeddon; the next Pearl Harbor; one of the greatest existential threats facing the United States.”
